Love covers a multitude of sins. When we ask God to show us, we see things so differently through His eyes and through His heart. That light comes into us and we see His love everywhere.
We don’t feel the need to lash back at the people so physically angry with us for holding them up on the isle in the grocery store for thirty seconds or on the busy highway. We look at them and smile while praying that whatever is going on in their lives, God will touch them with His comfort and peace. None of their anger comes nigh to this empty vessel filled with the light of Jesus. We instead discern the need for prayer.
We don’t pass by the widow on the street needing a dollar when we have two, and we pray God will help her make a way. We don’t feel hatred for the young person paying for groceries with an EBT card. We don’t know the pain nor the road that person has traveled. We don’t know the broken promises endured nor the failed trust they’ve grieved.
We don’t hate on the ones holding protest signs with fists in the air. We pray for strength for ourselves as we pray for all these. We don’t know the fear in their hearts that brought on so much rage. We don’t know their family at home that is hungry nor the home their family has lost.
We focus our well being on what we are able to do for Christ and not for ourselves. He is the light of the world and He shines through us in this darkness. He is everywhere. He takes care of us. There is enough hate in the world, and there is enough of the spread of hate. And for those we pray especially hard. In our empty imperfectness, we rise above with Christ and see through a different light as He fills us. He gives forgiveness, not the rage to fight back. His grace is sufficient for every day.
For you see, when the darkness falls so heavy that no man can see, it is only His light that will shine. And no man wants to be left in the dark.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Matthew 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Isaiah 58:10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul, then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day.
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
